We all thought that the year 2020 would bring us new opportunities as it marked the beginning of the new decade but the year started with disappointment and sorrow with COVID-19 spreading at a very high rate all around the world. When the first case of corona was detected in India, the fear of the virus was at the peak. Our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi first declared a 1-day curfew and then he declared a 21-days complete lockdown for breaking the chain of infection and people were home quarantined. Most of the people took this lightly but due to strict law enforcement all were confined to their homes.
The exams of students which were remaining were either postponed or cancelled. I was a student of class 10 at that time and my Computer Science exam was cancelled due to the same reason. I was shocked as I was best prepared for this subject and also didn’t get the full satisfaction of taking the board exams. Yes, I know that I wasn’t the only one to feel so, there were others also who felt the same. Its an irony that first we were made to complete loads of sample papers and practice for hours and leave all the fun behind and then mysterious Corona appears restricting all our freedom and desires. It is very obvious that any student will be frustrated knowing that they don’t get thing for which they worked hard and sacrificed their fun. But we poor students still decided to move on and just deal with the unwanted situation and motivated each other. We tried to convert this tragic period into merry time and did all the fun we could do from our homes like Video Chatting, Playing video games, sharing memes etc.
Whenever I recall lockdown period, I feel it was a golden time for me and my friends. We all thought that after this lockdown the problem of COVID-19 will be solved so we stayed at home just praying for the lockdown to get over. We were sure that we would feel proud of ourselves when we step out in the light but it did not happen. Even though the purpose of the lockdown was to break the infection chain but still the cases continued to rise at a very high rate so the lockdown was extended. Generally, classes continue in the month of May but as this year was different than others, we were introduced to a new and temporary system of education – “The Online Classes”. Being a new system which I think has been a dream for every student was welcoming.
The first few online classes were good and we developed interest in it. But very soon so many intruders also joined our classes and started trolling, some played loud music while some accessed the white board feature to troll our class by making drawings etc. Our online classes were lacking in direct contact between the students and teachers so it was easy for some students to bunk the classes. We were also introduced to an online evaluation system also which in my opinion is not very good because they are very prone to be interrupted and also had many bugs like once I was taking a biology revision test and I was about to submit it but I accidently touched my home button and my answer vanished and that was really frustrating for me. Mostly communication gaps and misunderstandings have also been created between students and teachers.
We were still looking forward for the lockdown to end but the cases were still increasing and the lockdown was extended several times and this was the time when these online classes started bothering us due to continued exposure to the screen and being confined at home. It’s human nature to crave for the things which they don’t have and get bored of the things which they have.
Now also everything is the same and so many things happened during this period. We lost legendary actors and a new conflict between India and China
