THE CHAOS IN THE SILENCE AROUND US
This had begun in March. It started with me telling my child and husband to wash their hands every time, ALL THE TIME. Everything seemed like any other day, there was a hustle bustle around me, children playing in the park next to my house, tossing their cricket ball in my backyard, cars honking for parking, people on the streets and the infamous GREY DELHI SKY.
Then IT happened, THE NEWS FLASH, the country went into, which was then believed to be a one time thing, THE LOCKDOWN. It all started with feeling this great joy, my family was around me, my children and husband playing scrabble all day, me in the kitchen literally cooking all day. The neighbors started talking from their balconies and gardens, we all connected through some music in the evenings, different music from every house.
Is that all that it was? The skies around us did turn blue, there was a change in the air we breathed, but amongst all that there was a scare, it was a major threat. The world as we know had then ceased to function. There were no honking of the cars, no children in the park, we couldn’t meet our loved ones. The tetra packs started going through different levels of cleaning. Then came a time, when the lockdown was lifted, people came back on streets, offices started and some markets opened. We all stayed put, we kept our distances within the house as one of us had to go out to get things from the market or go to the office. The sounds around us still remained silent.
What is happening outside? We weren’t oblivious to it, there is a crisis. I am thankful for the safety of my family but the news flashes around me sends a chill down my spine. Sometime back, a close female cousin who is in the medical field had tested positive for the virus. It was scary, she was put away for weeks, she hadn’t spoken to her family, I was the only one aware of the situation and it scared me every day.

I found inspiration from her, even during her time in isolation, she was always smiling, she was eager to get better and serve her nation again and with the grace of God, she was well again and today is back on the war ground helping in the treatment of many. I learnt that a positive attitude helps us go through these times.
Now is the time for all of us to come together regardless of the barriers of the society. The chaotic world around us has made us believe that we are all in this together. Things will get better, we will get better, we are evolving as humans.
The silence around us will turn to cheer, the chaos will end.
Amidst the chaos,
I found silence.
Amidst the silence,
I heard my beats.
And my heart filled with peace and content. Lost in the woods,
I found myself.
Lost in the woods,
I found myself....
